For a range of cells
Step 1
Select the cells or a range of cells you want to have number only input controls. For instructions about how to select multiple cells, click here.
Suppose you have selected the following cell range, and then opened the "Input Control" sub menu.
Step 2
If you want to accept integers only, check the box next to "Integer". Enter a number for "Minimum" and "Maximum". This means only numbers between these two numbers (inclusive) can be accepted. In this demonstration, we entered 0 and 10.
Step 3
Click "Numerical". The two text fields, the selected cells, and the two buttons ("Numerical" and "Set to Cells") are now highlighted in green. This means that the operation was successful and the setting is active.
Note: If you press any arrow key to move the cursor, you will see that the background color of the selected cells disappears. However, the "Integer" check box is still checked, the two text fields, and the two buttons are still highlighted in green. If you continue to move the cursor until it is out of the original selected range, the "Integer" check box becomes unchecked, the background color of the two text fields, and the two buttons will turn off. If you move the cursor back to this range, all settings will be displayed and highlighted green again as well as the two buttons. This is a quick way to check whether a cell has a number only input control.
Tip: Click the "Numerical" or "Set to Cells" button again to delete the settings of the current cell or the range of selected cells.
For a range of rows or columns
Step 1
Suppose you have selected the row range as shown below. You may select a range of columns, but the instructions should be the same.
Step 2
Enter a number for "Minimum" and "Maximum", check the box next to "Integer", and then click "Numerical". The two text fields, the selected cells, and the two buttons ("Numerical" and "Set to Cells") are now highlighted in green.
Step 3
Click "Set to Row" to apply the same settings to the selected rows. As shown below. The settings now have been successfully applied to the selected rows.
Note: If you press any arrow key to move the cursor, you will see that the background color of the selected cells disappears. However, the "Integer" check box is still checked, the two text fields, and the three buttons "Numerical", "Set to Cells", and "Set to Row" are still highlighted in green. If you continue to move the cursor down until it is out of the original selected range of the rows, the "Integer" check box becomes unchecked, the background color of the two text fields, and the three buttons will turn off. If you move the cursor back to this range, all settings will be displayed and highlighted green again as well as the three buttons. This is a quick way to check whether a cell and or a row has a number only input control.
Tip: While the range of rows is still selected, click the "Set to Row" button will toggle the settings to the selected rows. However, click "Numerical" or "Set to Cells" will delete the settings from the selected rows.
To delete the input control settings
Step 1
Click "Search Settings", and then a drop-down menu appears. Select the setting you want to delete. As shown below.
Step 2
Now all the cells, the rows, and or columns with the selected setting will be highlighted in orange. As shown below.
Click "DELETE" at the bottom of the sub menu, a confirmation window will pop up, click Yes.
